Château Ségur

Château Ségur, a familial wine house and producer of Bordeaux wine in Haut-Médoc appellation, is a 39 hectares vineyard. The name of Segur is, obviously, one of the most famous wine of the Médoc.
In the beginning of the seventeenth century, Messire de Ségur erected a castle along the Garonne River, at a location known as Ile d’Arès, where the first vines were planted simultaneously. Throughout the eighteenth century, the Counts of Ségur reigned with brilliance on several castles. Château Ségur takes its name from the eight wine appellations of the Médoc Peninsula. Its proprietor worked in ‘High Justice’ within his jurisdiction – this was customary before 1789.

The château was passed onto and occupied by its descendants until the French Revolution in 1789, where the property was confiscated and publicly auctioned. In the nineteenth century, several purchasers occupied the property until the Pepin family, where the Pepin & Gasquet Company then managed it.

Arriving from Morocco, Joseph and Gabrielle Grazioli settle in the château in 1959. To their realisation, there was only two adequate hectares of vines. The Grazioli’s replanted vines, installed a new wine storehouse, and refurbished the buildings. The Château Ségur is now a fully restored vineyard, currently owned by Jean-Pierre Grazioli, where he continuously improves the wine quality and invests in modern cellar equipment.
