An incredible setting for an incredible meal

Is the casual and fuss-free vibe of this outstanding meal what makes it so appealing? Or is it because it’s tucked deep in the lovely little organic vineyard in Blaye Citadel, the former bastion built to protect Bordeaux from invading forces?  Whatever happens, every year it opens its doors to host a unique evening with panoramic views over the Gironde Estuary.  If you love getting together with your nearest and dearest, jam-packed tables, pretty decorations, fairy lights, magical sunsets on green rooftops and real history, then this one’s for you.

A summer sky and cool evening set the scene for an annual reunion like no other. This is a golden opportunity to explore a unique vineyard, sample local wine, sometimes with music in the background but always with lively conversation among the winemakers in attendance. When it’s time for your al fresco meal, guests settle in with quiet excitement, ready to drink in a night of wonder.

There’s always something new to experience, whether it’s your first time in Blaye Citadel or not. The prime location stands in between the river, port and Blaye itself so this leafy plot has unique views. This tiny vineyard barely covers 1500m2 and produces a 100% Merlot hand-grown and horse-ploughed vintage. It’s a spell-binding part of the citadel where time stands still: the UNESCO World Heritage site between the estuary and vines was a convent, a prison and barracks in another life. But now it has a new role to play. Now it’s a place to party, get together and make new friends with people here to celebrate for one night only.
